I hate to post this buzzkill so soon after the good Sam Adams news below, but it would appear that I have to rename the brewery. I received a somewhat pedantic email from the Blackstone Brewery in Nashville, TN, who feels I’m about to infringe upon their trademark. I’m not entirely sure why a brewpub 1,065 miles away is menaced by homebrewer with grand ideas and no money, but I’m not about to get into a fight over it. As many know, I’ve been calling myself Blackstone Aleworks because I live and brew in Quinsigamond Village, the “gateway” of the Blackstone River Valley. I’ve been using it for a few years, so I’ve gotten a bit attached to it and I’m a bit sad that it has to change.
(EDIT: I’ve removed the email from my post. No sense in dwelling on it, I guess.)

Hrm, considering the author isn’t aware of the difference between the words “lose” and “loose”, they might be confused about other things. Before completely abandoning, it might be worth buying a lawyer a beer and seeing what the true implications are, and/or exploring “Blackstone River Aleworks” (or “Blackstone Valley” or a similar clearly-regional name).
Cheers!
tey are correct. they registered the name. same thing happened to the wwf, now wwe. i found them in tenn a few years back, i liked the blackstone name too. oh, i would like to start my own brewery too. we should chat. i am poor too, lol. but, its a dream.
Well, don’t give up. My dream is to start my own brewery too. I live on Vernon Hill, we are pretty close. If you would like to chat sometime and have a beer, just let me know. Starting any business in tough, even more on your own. I don’t know if I can send a private message here, but feel free to e-mail me at ishmie@yahoo.com
